PROJECT TITLE: State of the University Video
TEAM:
Marketing Communications Team
Copywriter: Jack Martin
Video Editor: Heather Attig
Editor: Evie Rapport
Designer: Heather Attig
Art Director: Audra Kenton
Producer: Frank Barthell

BACKGROUND
The Objectives
Increase the viewership of the annual state of university video by posting an interesting, contemporary online video, rather than asking the KU community to attend a presentation on campus.

Target Audience
The broader KU community, especially faculty, staff, alumni and friends of KU.

THE SOLUTION
Strategy
We discussed how we’d work with the chancellor in advance.

Tactics
The video team met internally to map out pre-production and shooting schedules and develop strategy.

CHALLENGES
Challenge #1
Videotape the chancellor on-site at each of the four major KU campuses.

Challenge #2
Use some existing KU video footage and shoot new footage that emphasizes the dynamic nature of the university’s efforts. Synthesize footage and create a user-friendly video with a contemporary feel.

RESULTS & OUTCOMES
The creation of video graphics helped clarify KU’s mission and the chancellor’s message. The video received nearly 3,500 hits and 22 likes with no dislikes. The client was satisfied and will undertake another video this year. All indications are that the chancellor was also pleased.
