As a leading research university, the University of Kansas is committed to ensuring that members of our community are able to exercise their right to vote and participate in elections. The upcoming Nov. 8 general election in Kansas is another opportunity to foster this kind of civic engagement.

The ballot will include various federal, state and local elected positions, in addition to state Constitutional questions.

If you’re not registered to vote, the last day to register in Kansas is next Tuesday, Oct. 18. Eligible voters may register to vote at ksvotes.org. College students may choose whether to register at their permanent home address or at their address while at school.

If you’ve already registered and want to vote in advance, you have two options in Douglas County. First, you may fill out an application to receive a ballot by mail at ksvotes.org. Completing the ballot application promptly and returning it to your elections office will help avoid complications. Once you receive your ballot, you may return it in person at the local elections office in your county of registration or at a ballot drop-off site in that county. Locations of ballot drop-off sites are available by contacting your local elections office.

You may also elect to vote early in person. In Kansas, in-person advance voting may begin at different times for different counties. Contact your local election office for advance voting options in your county. In Douglas County, in-person advance voting will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 19. More information about Douglas County advance voting locations is available online, along with drop-off sites for mail-in ballots.

KU’s Center for Service Learning has a wealth of resources related to voting and how students and other members of the KU community may register to vote.

Voters who are registered outside of Douglas County may look up information about their registration status, deadlines, mail-in ballots, polling place locations and other information at rockthevote.org.

Questions about how to participate in the coming election may be addressed to the Douglas County Clerk’s Office at 785-832-5267 or elections@douglascountyks.org.
